Ahh high school. The never endless homework, tests, and drama. Remember? They say high school is going to be the best part of your life. Is it? Here's the answer: NO. As a 2020 graduate, I present to you, my first year of high school based off of a true story. In it has drama I never faced, things I never knew, and things I never thought I was capable of.
May 2016
I dove into M's pool, thanking GOD that I wasn't in school for another two months. Will was there, along with all of my youth friends. I rested on the ledge, wiping my eyes. M was setting up a table, placing desserts at the end. Will was holding a gift bag and handed it to her. Claire was sitting next to me.
"I don't like him." Claire said softly
I smiled.
"REALLY?" I forgot how loud I was. "Really?"
"He's not that nice."
"Yes." I said quietly. "I know how you feel.
I got out of the pool and dried myself with the beach towel.
"Hey Abs," She said. "Can you help me feed?"
"Of course!" I said as I put on my flip flops.
I followed her to the back property.
"How are things?" She asked.
"Things are great, I'm happy that school is over." I said reaching for the sky. "How about you?"
She opened the barn and scooped up a bucket full of goat feed.
"Things are good. I'm happy that school is over, more time to ride horses and swim."
I could tell that there was something else wrong with her.
"What about you and Will?"
She chuckled, shaking her head.
"I'm thinking about breaking up with him."
I smiled and quickly changed it to a frown.
"Why?"
"He just hasn't been telling me the truth."
I wondered if she knew about P.E.
"Well, if he hasn't told you the truth, he doesn't deserve you."
She nodded, clipping the food against the gate.
"Maybe you're right."
I smiled...
"You know what would be fun? Basketball, one on one; just the two of us like all times?"
She smiled. "Yeah sure, that sounds like fun."
And that, ladies and gents, was my first year of high school; based on a true story. If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments.
