Haze Smith had a dog, a German Shepherd named Major. This book tells about the story of Haze and Major. Inspired by my own dog, Luna (a border collie.) Haze and Major's time together seemed short, even though it was 14 years.
Walking home, Haze heard growls. 'A dog fight.' She thought. Neverminded. Those were common. She ignored the growls and barks... well she tried her best to. Haze was twenty-nine, married, and had a child. The barks grew louder, and so did the growls. Suddenly, a Husky, Doberman, Bull Dog, and some other dogs ran in front of Haze, surrounding a dog. Good grief, it was a German Shepherd! Her heart skipped a beat as she remembered a precious memory. She stared at the dogs, not moving. The German Shepherd growled... and the Husky leaped at it, striking its ear. A mixed-breed dog jumped forward and struck the German Shepherd's heel. Haze couldn't stand it anymore. She yelled, took off her jacket, and swung it at the attacking dogs. Surprised, the dogs jumped back, all except for the bleeding German Shepherd. The big dog growled at Haze, who calmly approached, muttering soft, soothing, gentle, words. The dog relaxed and hesitantly followed Haze to her home. Her daughter and husband had gone to visit Aunt Lacey, so they would be gone for a while. She nursed the German Shepherd back to health and found out it was a girl. There was a leather collar, and a tag without an address, phone number, nor anything else except for a name. Written on it was "Daisy." The hand-writing looked like it belonged to a child. As soon as Daisy was all patched up, fed, and watered, she whined to get out. Haze knew there was a journey ahead of the dog. "Go, then. Be safe." Haze said quietly. She opened the gate, and Daisy moved on. She watched Daisy disappear behind cars and hoped that she would be alright. Haze sat down on the sofa, sighing. She looked at pictures of her when she was younger, and memory smashed into her head. She remembered her dear angel: Major
