Chapter 3 of 6 - The First Day Left Alone

Major felt happy with the girl and her family. She loved the new bed the girl had given him, and the treats and food... and of course, the walks! Oh, and the toys! He loved her cheerful voice when she trained him. He never wanted to leave her, but one day, everything grew busy and she had a back-pack on her back. Major jumped and barked. "Now Major, sit! Be a good boy, I'm going to school." She said. Then, she opened the door. 'Wait, you forgot the leash!' Major barked, thinking they were going for a walk. Of course, the humans didn't understand him and he didn't understand all the words they said. They closed the door in his face. 'Now what?' Major barked to himself. He was house trained, and there was a doggy door leading to the back-yard. He sniffed his food bowl. There were remains of his breakfast. He ate them, drank some water, and headed out the doggy door to go potty. He went around the back-yard, sniffing here and there. He heard a rumble of a car engine, and dashed into the house to the front door, thinking it was Haze and her family. Little did Major know that it was just the neighbor's car. Major barked, and spotted his favorite bone toy. He dashed to it, tossed it, and ran after it. After playing for a while, he got tired and slept in his dog bed. 8:00 A.M, Haze's school "So, we need to be careful when we..." Haze sighed as she thought about Major. The teacher was blabbering away about math, her favorite subject. But today, she couldn't seem to focus. 'What if he escaped? Or someone stole him?' Haze thought. Aftermath, they had written. "Today, we will be writing about things we are thankful for. You will have to write an essay. Be specific with what you are writing on. The essay will be for your homework. We will be practicing right now. Grab your paper and pencil, and start writing down ideas and details." The teacher said. Haze grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil. All she had on her mind was Major. So she would write about Major. 10:00 A.M, Smith family's house Major scratched his ear and chased his tail. He was bored and hungry. Suddenly, he heard a car engine pull up to the front yard, he heard the door open and slam shut, and footsteps walking up to the door. Major barked, scratching the door, and jumping up and down. The door opened, revealing Mom. "Down, Major! DOWN!" Mrs. Smith shouted. Major obeyed and watched Mom as she poured water and food into Major's bowls. "Alright, Major! Eat! See you!" Mom said and went out of the door again. Major gobbled down his food, drank water, and went outside to potty. Then, he played with his toys and fell asleep. In his sleep, he dreamed of seeing Haze and Lacey again. He dreamed of playing and seeing his sisters and brothers and his mom. He dreamed of going to Farmer Bill's farm again with Haze, Lacey, and their parents. 10:30 A.M, school. DING DING DING! The bell rang for lunch. Everyone dropped their pencils and put their papers on their desks. The teacher handed out homework and everyone left for lunch. At the cafeteria, Haze sat with Lacey and her best friend, Jenny. "I'm worried about Major," Haze whispered to Lacey. "It's okay, Mom fed him," Lacey whispered back. "What? Who?" Jenny asked, overhearing the words 'Major', 'Mom', and 'fed'. "Oh, nothing." Haze quickly said, eating her roman. ''Lacey?" Jenny asked, unsure. "It's okay, Jen," Lacey assured. The sisters weren't ready to tell people about Major... yet. Jenny was suspicious. Lacey never hid anything from her. They ate their lunch and went back to class. After School Major paced around. How much longer? He had taken four naps, four meals (Mom came home and fed him), and he had played with his toys. Then, he heard a car engine pull up. Major bounced up and down, barked, scratched the door, and barked some more. Finally, the door opened to reveal Haze, Mom, and Lacey. "Oof!" Haze laughed when Major jumped on her. The German Shepherd puppy licked everyone. "For goodness's sake!" Mrs. Smith laughed when Major licked her for the tenth time. Soon, everyone settled down. The girls did their homework and played outside with Major. "How was it, Lil' boy?" Haze wondered aloud. 'Not bad. Not good.' Major barked. Of course, Haze didn't understand him and just laughed. A few hours later, Dad came home and they had dinner. They took showers and brushed their teeth and went to sleep. Major snuck up on Haze's bed and slept a very peaceful sleep.
