When Mia's grandmother's secret baking ingredient gets stolen at her bakery just before the bakers' contest, Mia and her friends, Ava, Isabella and Sophia, investigate the crime. Will they find out who stole the ingredient? And will they also find out what the secret ingredient is?
Mia rode her bike along Ocean Drive street, delivering newspapers.
She threw one at the window above. A stern-looking lady came to pick it up.
"I wonder what's on the news today." thought Mia and opened up a newspaper.
It said:
'THE MIAMI ALL BAKERS' CONTEST! OPEN THIS WEEK, FOR ALL BAKERS! SIGN IN USING THIS GOOGLE ADDRESS: @MIAMIBAKE.com AND PREPARE TO BAKE AWAY ON MAY 19TH, 4:00 PM, at Daily Hall park, MIAMI'S ALL BAKERS' CONTEST! AWARDS: THE BAKERS' SILVER TROPHY!'
"Cool!" she said. "My grandma could join this!"
But first, she rushed off to tell her best friends, Ava, Sophia, and Isabella.
~
"So there's a bakers' contest next week?" Ava queried.
"Yup!" said Mia.
"Is your grandma joining? She's a great baker! This is an amazing opportunity for her!" said Isabella.
"I don't know. We should probably ask her now." Mia said, heading for the bakery which was half a mile away.
They went into Mia's grandmother's bakery, called ' Dolly's Quick-o Bakery.'
Ava, Isabella, and Sophia followed Mia into the kitchen, where her grandmother was busy baking a chocolate pie.
"Hi, grandma! Who are you baking that for?" asked Mia.
"Oh, this is just a sample for the bakers' contest." Dolly, (Mia's grandmother's name) answered.
"So you are in the bakers' contest?" Sophia asked.
"Yes, girls, I am!" Dolly replied.
"Maybe you could bake bagels?" Isabella suggested.
"I'll try," said Dolly.
"They said the classic is baking cupcakes," Ava said, looking into her cell phone.
"Then that's what I will bake!" Dolly cried, taking out a cupcake recipe. "I also have a secret ingredient!" she winked.
"Ooh! What is it?" Sophie queried.
"It's a secret! You can guess after you taste my cupcakes next week! Anyways, going to start a sample now!"
"Good luck!" Mia bid, as they started to leave the shop. "We are going to run to the park for some time," she added.
"Bye!" Dolly waved, as Mia and her friends disappeared down the street.
"I can't wait for the bakers' contest...ow!" Ava cried as she bumped into someone and fell.
"Ava, are you okay?" cried Mia.
Mia, Sophia, and Isabella looked up to see a boy with brown hair in front of them, and his friends, snickering.
"Who is he?" asked Isabella, making a face.
"Liam!" Mia said, austerely.
"Who's Liam?" Sophia asked.
"My cousin!" said Mia, with an air of annoyance.
"Does his mom own the bakery 'Elizabeth's Friends Baking.'? Isabella questioned.
"Yup! She does! And Liam is SUPER DUPER ULTRA MEGA..."
"Cool." Liam finished, smirking.
"Uh, thanks for finishing my sentence, but I was gonna say annoying," Mia replied.
This was when Ava's and Liam's eyes met.
Liam and Ava both blushed.
"Found a new love, Liam?" Mia snickered.
Liam glared at her and looked away.
Ava had a dreamy look in her eyes.
"Whatever." Liam said, mad that his cousin had detected his at first sight 'crush' on Ava (who was a pretty girl with shoulder-lengthed blond hair and blue eyes).
"Anyways, my mom is totally gonna win this bakers' contest," he added.
"We'll see." Mia returned. "Grandma has a secret ingredient."
"Don't care!" Liam said but narrowed his eyes.
Ava was still staring at Liam.
"Come on, dudes, let's go to Granny's bakery!" Liam said in a high-pitched voice.
The other boys laughed.
"He's spontaneous," Mia said, sighing.
They walked to the park.
"Well, uh...I mean he is kinda cute," said Ava.
Isabella had a smug look on her face.
"You think you have a crush on him?" Mia asked, with Isabella's smug face.
"Maybe." Ava blushed. "But let's get going now,"
So, they reached the park, unaware of the next morning.
