"Here we are," said Jade.
The dumbwaiter was a strange shape, but it looked like a lift without doors.
"So....who's gonna go on it?" Lucy asked, hoping it wasn't her.
Jade examined the dumbwaiter.
On the front engraved: "150 pounds"
Jade nodded.
"Um...so...?"
"I will go," said Jade.
She climbed onto the dumbwaiter.
"Will mum let us?"
"She doesn't know!"
"What if you fall? What if it stops? What if it breaks? What if-"
"Lucy! I'll be fine for the sake of God!" Jade cried. "There's nothing to be afraid of up here. There won't be any accidents, I promise,"
"Now how do you work this thing?" asked Lucy.
"Pull the garret away and you will see a button. Press it to restart."
Lucy found it and pressed it.
The dumbwaiter came to life and groaned against the iron.
"Girls! Is everything okay there?" asked Mrs.Jones from the kitchen.
"Um, yeah mum!" Lucy called out.
She slowly nodded at Jade, which meant it was safe to go.
"Wish me luck!" Jade pressed a button in the dumbwaiter wall that said, "Attic".
It was just like a modern-day lift, only it wasn't hard to figure it out.
The dumbwaiter rocked for a second and slowly climbed up the wall. It was musty, rusted with dust and cobwebs everywhere.
Jade felt quite disgusted up there, but she knew Lucy would throw up.
TWEE! The dumbwaiter stopped at some point, and Jade looked up for an exit.
There was a small hatch door, so she climbed up.
Ah! She was standing in a place no one had stood in for many years! If only Lucy was here!
The attic was smelly and dirty, but it had an old day smell that made Jade feel much better about the ride.
The whole room was covered in cobwebs, dust, and there was old furniture and boxes everywhere.
"Wow," Jade said under her breath.
Her parents didn't know this. If they had, they would have taken forever to get this all clean!
Jade shoved through some boxes and tripped over a huge one.
"Ow!" she cried, hitting the ground.
She looked back at it and saw it was a purple memory box!
Memory boxes are easy to identify because they were kept in queer places, hidden away amongst many others.
Jade picked it up and decided she would open it downstairs.
There was also a hatched window, dusty (everything was dusty) window panes and there was an air ventilation cooler attached to the upper part as well.
Suddenly, a creak was heard.
Jade jumped and began to think it was Ella. Yup, it was definitely Ella.
She ran back to the exit and plopped down the dumbwaiter.
But alas! She came to know that the dumbwaiter had gone down and wasn't even there anymore!
She quickly searched for some button to bring it back up.
Jade began to panic. Was she trapped in here forever?
She shouted, "Lucy!" but knew Lucy couldn't have heard her.
All of a sudden, it happened so quickly!
Jade was pulled back in a grip. She knew it was Ella, so she threw the memory box down the dumbwaiter wall and let herself be taken into the worst nightmare ever, praying this wasn't the end.
