When a little kitten is all alone in a small orphanage and does not have that much family, there are 3 people that change everything, tag along in our small adventure of a little kitten finding its way in the world. Experience its thought and emotions.
It was just like any typical Wednesday morning, except that on that particular Wednesday the cherry trees had just blossomed with a big bunch of pink flowers peeping over the silver gates at the front of the cat and dog orphanage. The only thing pretty about the orphanage on this day was the blossoms I now got to see once a week when I went for my check-ups. I am alone at the orphanage because of my mother's death. She died a few days after I was born, from a poisonous plant at the back of the orphanage, so now the garden is off-limits. Today has been long and tedious, the only exciting thing that happened is when I got my food. I stay in a small cage with one yellow blanket- though I don't need it with my furry body. We have mealtime at noon and occasionally we get dinner at 6. I cannot say I like it here, but I cannot say I am ungrateful. I do miss the cosy barn I would sleep in with my 12 brothers and sisters. I was separated from my siblings when my mother died, the only sibling that is nearby is Penny-seed, she is a black and white Cymric, but sadly she stays in a different room, the room for animals that need special care. She was put in there after she was attacked by a squirrel, it a long story, but she will be moving back with the rest of us cats next week.
Today one of the cats is making a fuss over some rubbish thing, it stops when the door to the cat's room opens, and a boy in a wheelchair comes out being pushed by his parents. His face suddenly lights up when he sees all the kittens in our little black cages. "Mum%u2026." he says smiling. "Yes," she replays with a curious look. "Can I get one of these? Please mum," he says, with big puppy eyes, "Liam, you know what I said about going to the cat and dog orphanage, you mustn't push your way, you already got your way when we came here, don't push it or it won't happen again," she says with her arms crossed. Now the boy's face is downcast and I can see tears running down his pink cheeks. "I know, it's just%u2026 I've always wanted a kitten, also this would be the only good thing to happen after the accident." His dad looks up at his mum who is crying and has that look that says, please he has been through so much, and I would also love a kitten. I am sitting in my cage hoping that it would be me, that I would be the one they chose to bring home, Liam's mom bends down to meet his eyes," I know this year has been long and tough and it is really difficult that this happened to you," she says looking at his crippled leg, "we can get a kitten under one condition, you have to take very good care of him or her," she said leaning on the fact that he needed to choose a kitten. He rolls the wheels on his wheelchair up to the first kitten and moves up until he gets to my cage, "Hey mom this kitten has a lavender-coloured collar, do you think it's a girl?" he said curiously "Oh, my favourite colour," she said giving him the look that says you need to choose soon or dad might change his mind. (Wow, this family gives each other a lot of looks.)
Thirty minutes have already passed and he still has not chosen which kitten to get. I decided that I should do something about it, so when it strikes noon one of the workers brings me a small bowl of brown cat cereal and some cabbage. Ugh, not cabbage again. "I have some cabbage for you, your favourite," says one of the workers. Yes totally, I love cabbage. I don't know what gave them that impression and I wish that humans could understand me, well they think they do but they don't. Ew, not cabbage. Before she closes the cage, I jump out and run to Liam's lap. His eyes light up and he smiles "It likes me, mum, it likes me," "Now dear you don't know maybe it just," she is interrupted by the staff member Samantha who feeds us every day, "This one is a case, he was born into a Cymric family, so she is a Cymric, and yes she is a girl, she has 12 brothers and sisters, but we only have two of them here at the orphanage, sadly we did not have room for the rest, we are running out of space, so that is why we decided to call today a deal for any kitten you want, and also her name is Lilac, we prefer if you don't change the names of any of the kittens, you chose to adopt. So Liam, have you made any decisions, you don't have that much time, only about 10 minutes," she says and glances towards his parents. "Well Martha, and James, what are your thoughts?" she asks warmly, "Aw, it's a very hard decision, but we want Liam to choose," Martha, Liam's Mother, said thoughtfully, looking with wide eyes at Liam as if to say speak up boy time is running out. "Well, Ma'am, I think that I want Lilac," He said, stroking me, I was so happy to hear that, so happy that licked the boy until he started laughing. "Well good choice," Samantha says proudly, "But I have to say we will miss Lilac's sunshine she brought to us, here at the cat and dog orphanage." She finishes and to my astonishment, I see a real tear roll down Samantha's cheek. "But we know she will be in good hands and will receive a lot of love from you all." she finishes and clears her throat, as she smiles at the Millers. "Yes, we will take very good care of her, and we will feed her well and make sure she is comfortable," Martha says. "We also have a small garden at the back of the house, I am sure that Liam and her will have plenty adventures," James, Liam's dad, says smiling at his son, who is still stroking me. It feels good, keep doing it, I think to myself as Liam rubs my ears. "I trust you are all happy with your Decision. Why don't we just get all the papers sorted out for adopting Lilac," she says in a rushed tone as she looks up at the clock."You will sadly have to put Lilac back until we sort that out," she picks me up and carries me back to my cage, I don't want to leave Liam, I look at him as he is pushed back out of the room and the door shuts.
