Chapter 2 of 12 - A Therapy Session

"I've been told you're experiencing problems?" Holly sat across from black women. Holly's hair was a mess, her eyes swelled from tears, and you could clearly tell she was tired. A clock on the wall slowly ticked. "Let's not play these games." Holly crossed her legs, "God, this office looks the same." "Holly, you ran away when you were eighteen, it's been three years, we need to start over." The woman looked serious but hurt, she didn't let Holly protest. "If you had three wishes what would they be?" "No. Not this again, I'm not a child anymore-." "When you were nine you said you would wish to be an actress, a good actress, and to have an unlimited supply of burritos." "I was throwing my mom off. Any good therapist would know that." "Tell me what you would wish for now." She quickly typed something on her computer without turning her gaze from Holly. "Wishes aren't real. Why did you become a therapist? To help, right? If you could give out free wishes to every person who came to you, you wouldn't need to be a therapist." "Holly, that's enough, stay on subject." "Fine." Holly didn't expect that, she wanted to be kicked out. "I'd wish that I never had a fling with Jimmy Smith. I wish my baby would come back to me. And lastly, I wish that I had no mental illness, because once you do and people know they don't look at you the same. And when you change after you get the help they don't see any improvement. My old impressions never left the minds of my siblings. All I am is a piece of shit in their minds. That's why I ran away, I needed to be who I was, not who I use to be." "And what happened after you ran?" She typed more quickly with one hand stretched behind her back, looking in the other direction than anyone else would think possible. Holly shifted uncomfortably. "Well... I met Jimmy, we went up to his hotel room and we had a fling. A few weeks later I realized I was pregnant. I had to track him down since I've never been an ' exchange numbers' kind of person... He had a girl over when I did. It didn't go over well and I was shut out. I had to raise her myself. By then life got better and I was doing just fine. I should've expected that I'm just not meant to be happy." "What do you mean?" "Well, bad girl bad life."
