Moonlight carried his younger brother, Deathstar.
He knew he had to let him go, their older sister had told them when they were babies that she had to leave them, before she walked away she had whispered in Moonlight's ear a few words.
She had told him that he too would have to let go of Deathstar. They weren't the same.
Since they were young she had told them two things. Moonlight was meant to stay on earth and Deathstar was meant to leave. She had told them the two things the brothers had hated to hear, one was good and the other was bad.
Except she never told them which was good and which was bad, Moonlight had an idea. It hurt him to have it, it hurt him to walk up the steps to space and let go of his brother.
"Only a few more steps." Moonlight said, encouraging his timid brother to keep on walking.
"Is this it?" Deathstar asked, gazing longingly at Earth, it was so far yet so close.
"It is." Moonlight began to sob, he knelt and hugged Deathstar. Their hearts were close, beating in unison. "I have to leave you here."
"I thought this was just a trip to show me the Earth from far away."
"I know." Moonlight choked, "I'm so sorry!" He let go of Deathstar, turned, looked back once at his four-year-old brother, and ran down the steps back to Earth.
