Chapter 20 of 40 - Calm before the storm part 2

Cassie POV Fitz held the door open for me, bowing like a gentleman, which he wasn't. I walked into the cottage, and called dibs on the room facing east, since it had a beautiful view, with sunlight peeking through the leaves of the trees. "So, the scrolls, what do you think they mean?" Connor asked, when we all met at the dining table. This place was easy to love, and very pretty. As I stared at the scrolls, my vision went green. I mouth automatically opened, and a voice spoke, one that wasn't mine, old and raspy yet prophetic. "The power of night shall fall over the land Attempting to bring the heroes last stand An oath on the Styx A god's last breath Awakens the goddess The mother of death Six stones together Through ups and downs Reunited shall unlock the path To the lost crowns" I blinked and the world went back to normal. Everyone was looking at me like I had grown a third eye. "What?" I asked. They told me how green smoke had come from my mouth, and I had recited the lined in a unearthly voice. "Well, what did I say?" I asked. They all shook their heads, forgetting the lines. I huffed and ran to my room, grabbing a notebook and pen from a drawer, how had I know it was there. I rushed back. I settled myself back in the chair and closed my eyes. The words came to me, and I wrote them down. "What's a Styx?" Mia asked. "I know!" Maddie raised her had, clearly proud. "Styx is an ancient Greek river. Swearing on the Styx is like an unbreakable vow. You die if you break you're promise." I nodded, remembering this from a book. ''What does it mean, 'mother of death'?" Fitz asked, looking over my shoulder. I shivered, trying not to squeak too loudly. No-one answered though. Mother of death. Nigh. Goddess. Styx. It rang a bell.
