“Did you really think you could get away with it?” the man said.
Chloe and Pearl were struggling to breathe against the pressure.
“I created this laboratory!” he said, “When it was built, I had control over every aspect of its construction, and I still do!”
He pressed on his watch, which brought up a hologram from which he quickly pressed a few more buttons.
The pillars that were holding Pearl and Chloe up dropped and part of the wall parted way for a giant plunger to push Pearl and Chloe into what seemed like a white prison cell.
Pearl fell on her back but instead of hitting the floor, she landed in someone's arms. “Chloe?” looking beneath her, she saw Jason.
“What are you doing here?” Jason asked her.
Instead of answering his question, she asked another one, “Who is that man?!”
“I don't know.”
“You can call me 'Boss', but you won't for long in you don't answer every question I ask you!”
The man who had been in a completely different room before was now standing in front of the cell.
He snapped his fingers and two walls shot up from the ground, touching the celling and separating the three teens.
“You!” he started, pointing at Pearl on the right, “Tell me what the code that your boss uses to keep track of the employee count is.”
“Why should I know?!”
“He told you. I know.”
“And I'll never tell you!”
The man pressed on his watch and the floor under Pearl rose about a foot.
Chloe and Jason heard the sound of the floor rise but couldn't see what was happening because of the separator walls.
“Every time you don't answer me or answer untruthfully, I will make you're box smaller. It doesn't last forever.” He said the last part with a smirk on his face.
“Your turn.” He said pointing at Chloe in the middle.
“No.” She said without even hearing the question.
“No what?”
Chloe answered, “I already know the answer to your request, it's no.”
“Then you know what is about to happen.”
Again he lifted the floor, this time under Chloe.
Lastly he looked at Jason.
“You're work ID.”
Jason answered sarcastically: “A B C.”
The man taped his watch again and, unsurprisingly, the floor under Jason rose about a foot.
He stepped up close to Jason's cell. “Listen kid. I don't wait for opportunities, I create them myself. And if I don't get an answer—”
Before he could finish his talk Jason grabbed his arm and slid the watch out of his hand, smacking the man's chest on the bars. He put the watch on his own wrist and opened up the hologram.
“Give the watch back or I will shoot!” the man was pointing a gun at Jason's head.
Before the man could shoot, Jason used the watch to put a wall between him and the man, and open up the wall behind him, Chloe, and Pearl.
“Run!” Jason shouted to Pearl and Chloe.
The tree took off, and before they knew it, they were back at the room where they started. Strangely, the wall that had once been a dead end was now a hallway, leading to who-knows-where.
“What is that thing?” Pearl asked Jason.
“What? The watch?”
“Yeah.”
“It lets me control the structure of the building.”
“Wow!”
The same man who had trapped them in the cell appeared in the hallway.
“Halt! Give me the watch right now!”
“No!”
Jason pressed the watch and shot a pillar up from the ground, just in time to block the bullet coming for him. He hit the watch again and surrounded the man in a box.
“Go!” he shouted again to Pearl and Chloe.
“I'm right behind you—” Jason tripped on an air vent in the ground, knocking the off his wrist and down the vent.
