Pearl's parents didn't think their daughter would lie about something like this to them, but it was so evident this time.
“Pearl I think you bumped your head or something,” Steven said disapprovingly.
“I'm telling the truth! This happened before I broke my arm.”
Steven shook his head. “Pearl what you are saying is impossible.”
“We had the police go down there and investigate.”
“Then where is the police?”
Pearl slammed her fist on the bed. “I don't know! Nobody believes us!”
“I should think we have a reason.” Ellerie was getting ready to go down to start preparing lunch.
“Can you at least call Michael's parents and see if he's home?”
“Sure.” Steven dialed the Drenor's number. There was silence for a few moments, and he was about to hang up when they answered. “Hey! Yeah, Pearl wanted to know if Michael is home. Yes, I… I don't know why,” Steven looked at Pearl and raised an eyebrow, in response, Pearl shook her head. If Michael wanted to tell her parents what he was involved in, he could say it himself.
Steven continued, “Ok. Sure. Wait he did?” he pulled the phone away and looked at Pearl. “Pearl, did you know that Michael went to see you and Chloe a few days ago?”
“Yes, dad.”
Steven continued to talk on the phone for a while, with the conversation turning into something completely different. “Oh! Wow, I didn't know that. Is that in Alabama?”
“Dad! Is he home?”
“Oh yeah, sorry honey. No.”
Pearl sighed and lay back into bed with her father exiting the room to continue his talk with Mr. Drenor. It seemed like Michael had gone invisible after the incident with Chloe. He was out of reach it seemed. The only place that Pearl thought she might find him was the laboratory. But then again, Clade had threatened him about leaking the news that he was part of the movement.
She picked up her phone and texted Jason and Chloe (through Michael's number) the same thing.
'Hi. Where are you now?' She waited a few minutes for an answer but fell asleep again before she could get one.
The day went by, without many interesting things happening. Finn Island was closed to tourists, so Chloe's parents went to pick her up and bring her home
The loose tiger had run into the forest, and no one knew where it might be. On top of that, the other animals in the zoo still had to be taken care of. Without the crew there to take care of them, and without any people to tour the zoo, it became desolate. The animals were transported to another zoo, and Finn Island became desolate.
The loose tiger had to be caught and isolated, but how? This island was huge by searching standards. He could hide anywhere by the time that someone got a signal of his location. Tigers aren't dumb and would stalk and kill anyone that tried to come to it with a gun.
Pearl woke up to her mom again. 'Why can't I just sleep?' she thought.
“Pearl?” Ellerie whispered. “Are you awake?”
Pearl groaned wondering who woke her up his time.
“Ok great, you're awake.” She turned and nodded to whoever was behind her. She left the room and Someone else came in.
Pearl turned around to face them and saw Chloe.
“Oh hey, Chloe.” Pearl said while she yawned.
“Hey…” She whispered back.
“I tried texting you earlier. You didn't answer.”
“Through my number?” she pointed at her phone.
“No, through Michael's.”
Chloe ran her hand through her hair. “I don't have It with me anymore.”
Pearl got up and said excitedly, “So you gave it back to him? Did you talk about it?”
“Not exactly… I asked my dad to take me to Drenor's house because I wanted to give his phone back, but he wasn't home.”
“And?”
“So I left it with his parents.”
“Did you tell them about the fight?”
“Of course not! Do you know what they would do to me if they knew?” Chloe facepalmed and looked up at Pearl.
“Chloe. It's not what they would do to you, it's what you already did to your relationship with Michael. You two had a thing going, I know that for a fact. Why throw it away like this? You need to either salvage this or have solid evidence that this isn't going to work.”
