Chapter 8 of 8 - Swim Practice

When I get home my mom tells me to hurry up with homework. "Why?" I ask. "Your first swim practice is tonight." she replies. "Yey," I reply, I want to be with Olivia, that's why I joined her team, but after today at lunch, I'm not so sure anymore. After I finish my work and get ready to go, we have arrived. It felt so short. I get out of the car and wave my mom goodbye. I took a deep breathe and went inside, I wanted this moment to be with Olivia, but too late now. I saw the littler kids swimming in the pool and I headed on down to the deck. I sat down on a bench, a few kids were there, 5 girls and 1 boy, all looking about my age. "Hi, I'm Nora." one girl said, she held out her hand. "Aubrey," I said and shook her hand. "You're eleven, right." "Yeh, are you?" "No, I'm twelve." "How long have you been swimming?" I asked. "Since I was 5, you?" Nora said. "6," she nodded. "Favorite stroke?" she asked. Olivia and I have always liked butterfly. "Breaststroke," I said without even thinking, "Let me guess, you like backstroke." I said, she seemed like the type. "Yes actually, but my favorite event is 100 freestyle." she said. We talked in between sets, she introduced me to her friends Mia and Kate, they were also twelve. I never noticed Olivia looking at me, was I doing something wrong, I didn't talk to her because, it felt awkward, but now I have new friends, and she can join us. I think.
