Rank on my Friday class list out of three: one
Other people in my class: Gabriella Duke, Sky Parkins (Mr. Parkins daughter, gets special treatment. I throw open the abstractly painted yellow and purple door. I'm right on time. I sit down at my desk.
“People, people. Sit down. It's time to party! Not a party. Not a farty (yes, I see you looking at me like that, Clark), but an ART-Y!!!!!! Get your stinky butts off of the stinky chairs, and stinking walk over to your stinking art stinking cubbies before your stinky art teacher raps you on the stinky head with a stinky paintbrush.”
Did I mention my teacher is crazy? He was right about being stinky. His cologne smells like blue cheese marinated in pee and sweat. Or maybe that's just how he smells. Everyone grabs their glazes and the plates we made last week. Mine is shaped like a heart. It's for my mom. I get pink, red, and a roll of tape. I start crisscrossing the plate with blue masking tape. Then I cover the whole plate in red. I peel off the masking tape, painting the white lines with pink. It's exactly the way I wanted it.“It's beautiful,”
I hear Karen Ollivander say in my ear. I turn around. She's quietly tip-toeing back to her seat. She just made my day. I finish the art class.
