Chapter 1 of 1 - Prologue

“Let's go back in time, child. Farther than anyone bothers to look. Back when everyone was happy. United. When equality was all that mattered. When you could be accepted. No matter who you are. Don't you wish the world was still like that? Happiness for us doesn't exist anymore.” “But who are we Grammama?” “We are the tricksters, Rachel.“ “Why do people not accept us?” “They want our powers. They want our happiness. They are jealous, so they kill us off. They can't have it, so neither can we.” “But that's so greedy Grammama!” “I know, Rachel. People are made of greed.” “Some people. Others are made of kindness.” “Yes, Belladonna, that is true.” “Grammama, do you ever miss Candlewick?” Mira goes silent. 20 years ago Candlewick was forced to move on to the heavens. The afterlife. Mira had been devastated and missed her more than she ever had missed anyone. “Yes dear, I do.” “Why must she have left? Couldn't she stay?” “No, child, she couldn't have.” “I'm sorry Grammama, it's probably hurts.” “It's okay child. You didn't know.” Everyone goes silent. “I'm leaving soon, child.” “What?! But where?!” “I'm leaving forever. Use your powers in your defense.” And Mira leaves. She sits there and leaves. Rachel, Hearty Bottle, El Jamit, and Nosuma are sisters. Adopted trickster sisters. They're alone now. All alone.
