Chapter 3 of 6 - The Man on Citrus Court

Maddie and Abbie rode their bikes down to Citrus Court at 7:00 pm that night. "Soon we would be driving here," Abbie said, sighing. "Ugh, don't remind me," Maddie groaned. They grabbed a flyer for the house and started to bike home when a man called out to them. "Hey! You! Over there!" "Us?" Abbie shouted back. "Yes you! Come here!" Maddie started pedaling over when Abbie said, "Wait!" "What is it Abbie?" Maddie asked. "We don't know that man. He could be a kidnapper!" "A TEENAGER-napper." "Ugh, you know what I mean Maddie." "He could have something to say about the house. Or more news about that tornado! And that would be great for the newspaper Abbie." Maddie continued pedaling over while Abbie watched and bit her nails. "You hear about that tornado?" The man asked Maddie. "Yes, on the news. They said it was coming on Wednesday." "That news channel is telling a whole lot of malarkey! That tornado is coming tomorrow I tell you." "Mmmhmmm." "No one else is listening. They need to prepare earlier. Promise me that you will prepare young lady." "My name is Madison, you can call me Maddie. Um, I will try my best to prepare early." "Good. At least one person'll be safe!" "Thanks for the, er, warning I guess." "That's my job. I used to write for the local newspaper." "Really?" "You better believe kid!" "I am a reporter for that newspaper! The Chesterfield Chronicles! I write some of the sections too." "Wow. They will be having anyone write for this newspaper these days." "Is that a compliment or not?" "Take it as a compliment. Or not. I don't care either way." "Um, okay. I gotta go. Thank you!" Maddie pedaled back to Abbie who was already on her bike. "What did he say?" Abbie asked. "Not much. He said that the tornado isn't coming in two days but coming tomorrow. I doubt that though." Maddie explained. "Me too. Sometimes, elderly people think they know everything." "But get this! He used to write for the Chesterfield Chronicles too!" "Whoa! That is pretty cool." "Yeah, it is." "Do you believe him when he says that the tornado is coming tomorrow?" "Not at all. I don't think it is coming any day. And he just guessed. I bet he didn't do any real research." "True. I think you're right." And the girls biked home, not worried about a thing except getting home on time and eating as much dinner as possible. But they were very wrong.......
