Ada and her older sister are forced to leave their cozy cottage in the countryside and stay at a mysterious underground tavern, but not all is as it seems. Things that happen there are quite peculiar, and once Ada discovers something dreadful hidden deep in the hotel, she and her sister must try to escape the high surveillance hotel before anyone notices.
The long green grasses stroked her legs as she twirled around in the sunlight. She tumbled to the ground and rolled amongst the wildflowers with dandelion seeds buried in her charcoal hair. A butterfly fluttered from a flower and onto her dress, then spread its wings so she could see the delicate patterns. She smiled with squinted eyes and sprung about following the butterfly. It led her to a waterfall which filled a pool that was decorated with lilies and bulrushes. The water shone and glistened like it was holy. Apart from the dappled surface, it was so clear she could see to the pebbled bottom and tiny fish with vibrant colours darted from ledges in the rock. Smaller streams trickled through the banks and the gravel filtered only the purest water into the pool. Ada's heart lifted with excitement as she sat on the riverbank and dipped her toes into the bubbling water. Her skin prickled at the sensation of the cool water on her feet. Fish began to nibble her toes and she laughed as they circled around her and she wondered how they didn't get dizzy.
She leapt up when she realized she must show this secret haven to her sister. "Mr Butterfly, I will be back with Annie, stay here. This is our secret!" Then she raced through the trees which softly brushed her arms as she flew past. Like an old friend, the meadow awaited her and she jumped the stile and sprinted through the swaying plants until she got to the gate of the cottage. She sprung it open and scrambled inside. "Annie! Annie, you must see what I've found! Annie!", she found her sister in their bedroom, franticly packing their suitcases. Annie rushed over to her hysterical sister and put her finger on her lips. "Shush!", she whispered, "We have to leave NOW".
"But Mr Butterfly will wonder where I've gone!"
"Ada, please. There are men here that will take us both away if we don't leave now." Annie looked her in the eye and Ada knew she was serious. She said no more, and hurriedly stuffed her belongings into a bag.
