Chapter 9 of 14 - A Story To Tell

I was definitely in panic. I was so confused... Is Abel still not telling me the full truth? I followed the boys down the hall on the left. Benicio was in front of everyone, looking forward as if nothing happened. Jerk. We came upon a door that looked just like every other; dusty, ink ridden, old. Benicio opened it and Abel walked in, followed by Axel. It was just me and Benicio at this point. He was still at the door, holding it patiently. I was scared out of my mind. Why should I be scared of such a low life demon? Why are angels and demons even working together? I slowly, and cautiously, walked into the room where the other two were, Benicio following very close behind me. I swear I could feel him against my back, but I kept walking. I saw Abel look at Benicio, but I couldn't tell what he was signaling. Benicio smirked and turned his direction away from me. I sat down next to Axel because I was still mad at Abel, and I didn't want to be near Benicio, but I did want to be at the same time. Abel drew his attention over to me, trying to think about what to say. "A'ight, let's start with this," he continued, "You never knew this, but Benicio and I have been good pals since forever, like you and me. Sixteen years is a lot of time being together and being apart, in your case. And yes, you saw Benicio shooting at 'cops', but it was for a good reason." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Cops are the good guys. There is never a good reason to shoot at cops. Abel continued, "The thing is, those weren't cops." What? This isn't happening... "They are what we call 'Ink Men', Ms. Alice's dense henchmen. They were originally innocent toons until Alice took their lives and made them her slaves. She tries to use their ink to fix her, but the ink is too thin. Now, this is someone you should know about. Her name is Alice, Ms. Alice. She is always well hidden and apart from the rest of Toon Town, so you wouldn't have heard of her. She is the reason why one of our good friends isn't here with us right now. She's always trying to get her hands on poor ol' Boris's heart so that she can be beautiful again. At least that's what she says. You see, Alice wasn't always the psychopath we know today. She once was a very beautiful Angel. I mean, everyone loved her! She was always so kind and graceful, until one day she met her creator for the first time in years. And you might as well know that he is also Benicio and Boris's creator, but Alice is in no way related to them," Abel said, looking over at Benicio, "Alice didn't know what was coming for her. He took his ax and struck her many times, leaving a lifetime of damage that couldn't have been fixed. The creator's name was Joey Drew. He went insane after the fall of his studio, which you happen to be in right now. He wanted nothing to do with his creations because he was afraid that they would rise against him, then try to kill him. So after Alice's neglect from her creator, she went on to find a way to fix herself; change back into the person she once was." Abel stopped, taking a breath. . .. ... .. . You suddenly felt bad for Benicio. If Joey Drew was his creator, then that must mean Benicio thought of him as a father. You looked over at Benicio but didn't want to make eye contact. He just sat there, looking down at his fists that were set properly on his knees. Axel seemed amused by the story and waited for Abel to continue. "Now you know about Ms. Alice. I think it's time you know about us. So, yes, we are a gang, but we have a certain goal. Those Ink Men were trying to stop us from taking ink that can repair wounds on a toon. Toon's wounds can't heal without it. We stole the ink because, yes, it is very precious, but it is also very dangerous. If Ms. Alice gets her hands on it, she could either die or become the demon that possesses her soul. I know it's weird, but because Joey created them out of sacrifices and demonic rituals, Alice, Benicio, and Boris are all affected differently. Alice used to be a good friend of ours, now she thinks we are sworn, enemies. All we're trying to do is protect her, even if we have to kill along the way." Everything went silent for a moment until Benicio spoke, "We want you to be apart of this mission because you know more than anyone else does about the Casino's background. You also know more about us then all the innocent people out there. Now that you know... can you help us?" Benicio asked, he looked determined, but also a little off. You thought that this wasn't the only reason why they wanted you aboard. "Tell me the other part of this 'mission'. I know you're trying to accomplish more than this," You said, staring into Benicio's deep, red eyes. Benicio smirked and looked over at Abel, "She's smart, too," he chuckled. Abel quickly looked over at him and scoffed. Benicio looked serious for a moment, "Okay, I'll tell you," he stammered, "We also need this ink so that we can keep it away from someone else, as well. His name is Mr. Moon. He is our rival gang leader looking to take the ink so that he can use it for his deceitful plans that we don't yet know of thanks to this dolt," Benicio growled, looking over at Axel. Axel smiled and ducked his head to hide his embarrassment. "Anyway, Who knows what he could do with it? Moon is always around our territory, so he's easy to find around here. His twin, Moon Man, a very good friend of mine. He owns the Half Moon bar downtown. You'll see Moon lurking around there, sometimes doin' something stupid. For instance; being out in the open where I'll find him and gut 'em right then and there!" Benicio and the rest of the crew laughed a little. They really must not like Mr. Moon that much. . .. ... .. . "He's a smart man, though. He knows what he's doin'." Benicio admitted, sitting back in his chair, "So, know that I've explained it all this time. What do ya say?" he said, waiting for a reply. I didn't know what to say. This whole time I thought that these toons were dastardly criminals, but they're only trying to protect the ones they love. I could be of use to them because of my occupation. I would do anything to help the helpless... But what about my father? Will I have to stay here in the abandoned studio? "I-I don't know... I want to help, I really do! There are a few things that I'm worried about. What will become of my father when I'm gone? Will I have to stay here?" I said, trying not to sound selfish. Abel stepped in immediately, "No, no! Now that we've talked about it, I think you should stay with your dad. But you're welcome here anytime you like. And, you get to keep your job!" he said, a smile wiped across his face. I don't have to leave home! This is amazing! "Alright! I'm in!"
