Chapter 14 of 14 - Save Him

I looked around again, trying to see who was coming. "We have to go this way," Benicio said, dragging me behind him once more. I kept my eyes out in front of us, trying not to trip over my own feet. "Who was it? How did you know 'they' were coming?" I asked curiously, running out of breath. "The Ink Men were coming through the door. I could hear them," he replied, stopping at a corridor full of different colored doors, "Abel has to be in one of these," Benicio claimed, picking at a lock on one of the doors, "Knock on every door. Abel will answer." I nodded my head and went to the other side of the corridor. I passed three doors already and no one answered, Benicio looked like he was having a hard time finding Abel, as well. I came upon a red door and knocked on it, hoping someone would answer, I put my head up to the door so I could listen. Benicio whispered across the hall to me, "He's in this one!" he said, pointing over to a white door. It seemed a little too obvious, but Benicio already picked the lock. He opened the door, revealing the tattered angel tied in a chair, his mouth covered with a white cloth wrapped around his head. He looked like he was beaten pretty badly, so I was careful when taking off the ropes. Benicio stood by the door looking very focused. He must be listening, how can he have such good hearing? Never mind, I have to get Abel out of here. I tried to untie the knot that kept all the rope together. Finally, I got the right piece to come off. Benicio turned around and quickly rushed over to Abel and me. "C'mon, Abel, get up! We have to get going. Alice knows we escaped," Benicio whispered harshly, pulling Abel to his feet. I felt like crying. Abel was bloody from head to toe, he couldn't walk on his own. I got up and wrapped his arm around my neck, holding him up. I can't lose my best friend, not again. Benicio urged me and Abel out the door, finding ourselves running once more. . .. ... .. . You couldn't run as fast as Benicio now that Abel's weight was on top of yours. Benicio noticed that you were too far behind, so he came and held Abel's other arm. Benicio constantly stopped in his tracks and went in different directions, the Ink Men must be all over the place. Benicio started for a door that leads to a staircase. 'Great, how am I supposed to carry Abel up here?' you thought to yourself. Suddenly, Benicio took Abel from you and carried him in his arms. "Let's go," Benicio whispered hastily. He ran up the stairs, Abel's blood trailing behind him. You quickly began to run after him, tears starting to form in your eyes. Benicio came upon a window in the staircase's wall. He quickly set Abel down and took the rope Alice used to tie Abel. Benicio punched the window, breaking it into tiny, shiny red pieces. Benicio's hand started to bleed, but he didn't seem to mind. He through one side of the rope out of the window, giving the other side to you. "I need you to hold the rope so I can bring Abel down," he said. "What! How can I possibly hold both of you!" I whispered, looking into Benicio's eyes. He was scared. What was he scared of? "Look, I know you can hold both of us. When the wind blows against the building the air goes up, I'll use Abel's wings to catch the wind. We will both be light, I promise. We have to hurry," Benicio said with concern. I didn't know what else to say, so I agreed. I trust Benicio, he knows what to do. I held the rope while I waited for Benicio to find the right moment to leap. He picked Abel up off the floor and held on tightly to the rope. He dangled on the rope for a second, waiting for the wind. It was heavier than you expected, but the wall helped with the weight. You held on to the other side of the rope with the tightest grip you had. Benicio finally used Abel's wings the rest of the way down. The weight was gone, but you were still pulling on the rope. You quickly fell over but fought yourself with your hands. You were shocked for a second but you looked out the window to see if Benicio was down there. Benicio was on the grass with Abel. Benicio set Abel against the wall, holding the fallen rope in his hands. You panicked and held your hands to your mouth. 'How am I supposed to get down? I'll get caught!' you thought to yourself. Benicio waved his hand to get your attention, "(Y/N)! You're going to have to trust me, ok?" Benicio yelled, dropping the rope on the floor, "You're going to have to jump! . .. ... .. . No. No no no, I can't jump from here. I won't. It's way too high. "I am not jumping out of the window to my death, Benicio!" I yelled back at him, trying not to cut my hand on the little glass shreds on the windowpane. I heard someone walking up the stairs, they were distant, but the echo became louder and louder. "Where are you, Benicio." It was Mr. Moon! I have to get out of here... Benicio must have heard Mr. Moon's voice. He stood there with a blank expression on his face. I couldn't talk or Moon would here me, I have to jump. I waved to Benicio signaling that I'm going to jump. I took a deep breath and jumped up onto the window, looking down to see if Benicio was ready or not. I heard the footsteps become louder. The tension in the air was unbearable. I closed my eyes and jumped out of the window. I could feel the wind blowing my hair upward while I fell. I suddenly felt a rough jerk in my side, knocking the breath out of me. I hit the ground and tumbled over a few times. What was that? I opened my eyes and found Abel laying beside me. His eyes were opened and focused on me. "Are you alright, Angel cake?" he said, putting his hand on my cheek. "You didn't have to do that, Abel. You're hurt-" "You would've been hurt if you fell on Benicio. Both of you would be," I looked at Abel and smiled. "Thank you,"
