Chapter 9 of 11 - Meeting Alex and Alan

All of a sudden I felt like I was back in my captivity, and McKenzie felt it. McKenzie felt the same, I tried to remain calm. "We are... neighbors. We live up the hill." "The only people that live up the house are the Whites." "The Whites?" "Yes!" he snapped. "Claire and Chris White, now why are you at my house?" "Your house?" I asked. "This is your house?" "It's my fathers," the young man snapped. "now why are you here?" "We were looking around." I explained. "And we found your fathers house. We didn't know it belonged to anybody." The young man pointed his shot gun at me and gestured to McKenzie. "Why isn't she saying anything?" "My sister is afraid of guns." I said softly. "Please put it down we didn't know we were trespassing. Put it down and we will go back home and never come here again." The young man stared at me in a serious glance. "We haven't threatened you to use that, so please put it down." He put his gun down I breathed a sigh of relief and quickly tended to McKenzie. "Mac?" I asked. "Mac are you okay?" She wasn't responding, instead she had a blank stare. "Oh no, Mc- Makayla, can you hear me?" The young man looked concerned for her, he took a couple of steps toward us but McKenzie stumbled backwards, like she was about to fight him. I quickly diffused the situation by hugging her. "It's okay." I said. "It's okay." Pretty soon she sunk in my arms and started to tear up. I felt the rain hit us, and as I took a deep breath I saw that young man again. It was pouring down rain, I heard the thunder crack in the distance. "Listen, I might have been too aggressive towards you, do you want to come in?" I looked at McKenzie and we were both in agreement. We followed the young man and stepped into his house. It was neat, and clean, I heard two dogs come running toward us. "W- we never got your name." "It's Alex." he said. McKenzie nodded. "I need to call Chris and tell him where we are, do you have a restroom I can use?" He nodded. "It's down the hall first door on the right." McKenzie nodded, and followed the directions. "So you're living with the Whites?" I shrugged. "I guess so." "Are you a niece of some kind?" "N-no, I'm a foster kid. We're just staying for the summer." He looked up and looked at me with concern. "Foster? He asked. "You don't look like a foster kid." "I shrugged. "What does a foster kid look like Alex?" He sighed feeling ashamed of himself. "You're right," he said. "I was too quick to judge on that." I nodded, McKenzie came back with her phone. "Chris says he can't come down here, because the roads are too bad, we're going to have to wait it out." I leaned my head back screaming internally. All of a sudden the door opened and another young man in a wetsuit, snorkel, mask, and fins walked in the house. "Alan, I told you to keep your stuff outside of the house." Alex groaned. "And have cayotes pee all over them? No thank you, I'm putting this in the bathroom." He took off his goggles and saw me and McKenzie. "Who is this?" "This is..." "Scarlett." "And Makayla." McKenzie said. Alan, looked at Alex again and grinned. "Look at my brother, the LADIES MAN." "Alan no, that's NOT what this is." "Yeah whatever, I'm going to dress in dry clothes and get me some food." "They have to stay here until the storm passes is that alright with you?" Alan was already on the other side of the house. "Yeah that's fine." he yelled. "Play a movie or something, it passes the time." "Alright." He said. He turned on the TV and put in a movie. "I'm going in the kitchen to have something do you want anything?" Me and McKenzie stared at each other and nodded at Alex. "Okay." When he was gone I whispered to McKenzie. "Okay, this is a little weird." "You're telling me!" she said. "First he has a gun, now we're in his house? I want to leave." "We can't." I said. "The woods are too dense for us and the storm is dangerous." McKenzie groaned. "I know." Skylar said. "But this is only for a little while." Alan came back wearing sweatpants and a muscle shirt, he walked towards us and introduced himself. "I'm Alan O'Donnell." He said. "I'm Scarlett, and this is Makayla." I said. "We're sorry that we were trespassing." "Is that what happened?" He asked. "Yeah, we just arrived here, yesterday actually. We were exploring and we found your house." "And then my brother." Alan said. "Don't worry, he isn't dangerous." "He had a gun." McKenzie said. "These situations don't happen very often." Alan explained, "He didn't know how to handle it. He was never going to shoot you. Believe me. Plus, his aim isn't that good." "Whatever man! I qualified for nationals!" I followed Alan in the kitchen and stopped when I saw the two brothers side by side. "You guys are..." "Twins." Alex said. "Yep."
