It has been four months since Skylar saved Mckenzie from the SHAP. As she nears summer, she looks forward to having no school, no responsibilities, just fun in the sun. But that all changes on the last day of school, someone has put a 85 million dollar reward on Skylar and McKenzie. Dead or alive. Now it seems that everyone is after her and they have no choice but to go into hiding, in a little town called Someweare.
"Wha- What?" I asked.
He sighed as he kept his eyes on the road.
"Where are you taking me? W-Where are we going?"
"It's going to be okay."
"Going to be okay?" I asked. "Someone is trying to kill me! And they have the power to steal superhumans powers! How many powers have they already taken? Do you have any idea how spread out superhumans powers are? There are shapeshifting invulnerability, mindreading, fire manipulation, electricity. This guy could be anybody!"
"I know that! That's why we're-- I know you're scared and I understand, but we're here to protect you."
"Where are you taking me? Are you taking me to my parents?"
"No, we didn't want to risk your parents safety. Here's the plan, we're placing you in protective custody. The cover we are placing you is foster care. McKenzie and you are sisters, and--"
"McKenzie?" I asked.
"Yes, the hit is also placed on her."
I leaned back even deeper in my seat.
"Oh.. my gosh." I said, my breath shaking. "How-how is she?"
"She's fine," he said. "you'll see her at our last checkpoint."
"What's going to happen?" I asked. "How long will I be gone? Am I still going to be able to practice my powers?"
"We don't know how long you're going to be hidden. But you will be able to practice your powers. The people that will be taking care of you... your "foster parents" , have experience. They're superhumans too, which makes them even more qualified to protect you."
I nodded, trying to gain my bearings again.
"The town you'll be staying is called Someweare, it's very small and has little cell reception, so the chances of anyone recognizing you from the news are slim."
"But McKenzie... we'll be together right?"
"Yes Skylar."
