The cold morning wind blew through the air as I quickly walked on the sidewalk.
I need to get home. I thought as I crossed the street.
I pushed my long ginger hair out of my face. My sweater looked pretty dirty and I didn't like wearing it in public but it was a gift from grandma and I couldn't just leave it in the closet.
I went up onto the porch and opened the door. Something was wrong with our front door. I can just open it ever tho its locked.
I entered the house and closed the door behind me before any warm air was able to escape.
"I'm home!" I shouted.
My mother was watching a movie and sitting on the couch.
She didn't respond.
I ignored everything and went up stairs. My cat Wes followed me.
It feels like the only one who acts like I exist is Wes.
I flopped down onto my bed and Wes jumped up and sat on next to me.
I started petting his white hair.
I looked up at the picture of my family that was hanging up on the wall next to my bed.
It had Dad, Mom, Ricky and me.
Next to the photo was a paper card taped up on the wall
It said: "Love you Genevieve have a happy B-day"
my grandparents gave that to me.
I stared back at the family picture.
The Greymen family was once so happy.
My brother Ricky died in a car accident about a year ago. After that, My parents and I have been distant.
Dad never comes home.
Mom doesn't speak to me anymore and I... well I'm still trying to live my life as best as I can.
Wes curled up into a small ball and lied down.
"You promised you would always be there to help me Rick," I said under my breathe.
when I was sad I always went for a walk.
I stood back up and ran down the stairs. I most of startled my mom because she turned her head very quickly and looked at the stairs.
"You scared me," She said as she bent down and started petting Wes.
"Sorry, Mom. I'm going out for a bit"
I opened the door and walked out. My Mom seemed confused she stared at the door. Maybe she was going to finally fix the thing.
I ignored her and continued walking down the side walk. I heard Mom close the door. I sighed deeply.
"Why can't life go back to the way it used to be?"
I walked for a little bit and noticed a girl staring at me. I didn't make eye contacted. She smiled and stood up from the bench she was sitting on.
She walked over to me. I paused. The girl had Short brown hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a raggedy shirt that looked to big for her.
"Can I help you?" I asked.
"Yes, Are you Genevieve Greymen?" The girl asked.
"Um yes?"
"Great! I have been looking for you!"
Did I know this girl from school? I thought.
"My names Loretta! Loretta Nells" She said.
"Uh hi, Loretta. Why were you looking for me? And how do you know my name?"
"Oh because your brother sent me"
I paused and looked up at her.
"My bother..is gone.."
"Oh I know"
Was this some kind of sick joke? I stared at her.
"He sent me to come to find you and help you"
"But how?"
She seemed to have a worried smile on her face.
"Well...I'm dead too"
