Chapter 5 of 14 - Take You Seriously

Chloe was right. The police didn't believe a single part of Pearl's story. “Listen, I am serious! Why would I try to fake a story like that?” Pearl was getting annoyed with the officer in front of her. “Some people think it's smart to trick police guards into false alarms. You have pushed your tales to far.” He was not amused with Pearl's story. “Tales? I'm telling the truth!” “Any witnesses?” “My two friends here. They were there with me.” “Kid, if you want to trick someone, don't pick the guy who has been working with crime and detecting lies his whole life.” “I'm not a KID!” Pearl was very annoyed now “In fact, a few years ago I was sucked into a whirlpool and climbed up a cliff without any help.” “You're not helping yourself Pearl.” Jason muttered under his breath, then said out loud “Alright officer, I know this sounds ridiculous. But think of it this way, that guy is trying to take down this entire park. If you don't do anything about that, soon you will regret it.” The officer stammered a bit, and then said, “Alright. I guess I can send a crew or something down there. You better not have wasted my time.” As the threesome exited the building, Jason had his hand on Pearl's nearest shoulder. She looked up at him. “How did you do that?” she asked. “Do what?” he said, moving his hand to her other shoulder so his arm was touching her neck. Pearl thought this was very comfortable. “I was there for ages trying to convince him to at least send a team down there to investigate.” Jason realized where she was going and smirked. “But you managed to do that in your first sentence!” “Pearl… listen,” he said, opening the car door for her “I like you, but sometimes it's hard to take you seriously.” “Oh really.” “Yes.” Pearl sighed and got in the car, but her foot got stuck outside on the bottom rim. She tried to get it unstuck but slipped and fell chest first on the seat. “Want some help?” Jason said, stepping forward. “No!” Pearl said with a voice crack, “I'm not a little kid. I can get up by myself.” She pushed herself up with her hands and realized her shirt was stuck in-between the seats. She lifted one hand to pull it out and fell again. Now it was Jason's turn to sigh. He walked to her and lifted her in his arms. He turned her over and looked her in the eye. She looked very sheepish. Jason set her upright in her seat and closed the door to go over to the driver's seat. Chloe was already in the passenger's. Pearl thought to herself, He probably thinks I'm so clumsy. As if he could read her mind, Jason said, “I find you amusing Pearl.” “What?” “Are you ready to accept that it's hard to take you seriously?” Pearl looked the other way and Jason smirked. Jason stopped at the girls dorm and Chloe got off. Pearl was going to as well, but Jason stopped her. “Stay, Pearl.” “Huh?” Pearl said, “But this is my dorm.” “I know.” Jason waved to Chloe outside and she waved back and pointed to Pearl. Jason rolled down the window and explained to Chloe, “We're not done with the evening.” “What do I still have to do?” Pearl was running a million scenarios in her head about what might be going on. Is he taking me to his hotel room? Is my hair messy? What does he want with me at 6:00? She was so concentrated she stopped paying attention to Jason and Chloe's conversation. Before she knew it, they were driving away. “You look tense.” Jason looked at her from the mirror. “Where are we going?” Pearl said, “Because I have a cup of tea on my nightstand which I made this morning. I need to drink it to help me sleep—” “Pearl trust me, where we are going will be way better than your tea.
