Chapter 4 of 5 - Eva

I pretended to listen as Zellie, Phoenix and Zane discussed the whole burning kids at stake thing. But all I could think about was, 'Why that memory. Why not anything else'. I couldn't believe the chronology of events that had occurred after I had woken in the forest. I got some childhood memories, talked to my BFF, met two incredibly cute- I mean annoying guys, and found out I was an angel from the 1900s. Yeah, this was the definition of 'I had a weird day'. Phoenix said, "We're here". I looked up to see a huge mansion. I mean, it could have been a castle, but modern, with blue-tinted glass and white walls. A HUGE lawn complete with flowers of all colours and statues of angels greeted the people who entered. "Come on," Phoenix said. He held the door open for Zellie and walked in after her. Zane looked at me and said, "After you". I stuck my tongue out at him and walked in. My jaw dropped. The place was like a palace all right. It had a literal chandelier, carpets and lamps. It all looked unreal. "Y-You live here". "Yep," Zane said, "Pretty cool, right?" "Pretty cool? This- this is like that castle from Cinderella, it's a bit better than pretty cool". "Well, you get used to it," He plucked an apple from a nearby fruit basket. "But feel free to drop your shoe for me to find". He winked at me. I hit his shoulder, then jogged forward to catch up with Zellie and Phoenix. Zane ran after me, looking a bit annoyed that I had ditched him. "So where's your leader guy you both talk soo highly about?" Zellie asked. "Leader guy? I deserve a bit more respect than that," a voice drawled from behind us. I turned to see a tall, muscular dude with stringy blonde hair and impossibly violet eyes. He blinked at us. "Came here to get registered, I suppose." Both Phoenix and Zane sunk into reluctant half bows. "Actually, master, we came to ask you about their age, their lives. You see, they are Evanora Tilly Willmott and Zelena Omen," Phoenix said. "The missing girls from the 1900s." The master raised an eyebrow. "You want to know whether you are dead. That's easy. The answer is no, I do not sense the aura around you, though I do sense that you have lost your life before, only to be reborn." "Reborn?" Zellie asked. "Yes. You- you were%u2026" He shook his head. "I need a proper reading". "Will you use the fire, or the dagger?" Zane asked. "I think the fire will suffice." Zane let out a sigh of relief. "Follow me" the master gestured and all four of us followed him into a staircase. It led about 10 levels down. As we walked, Zellie asked, "What did he mean, the dagger or the fire?" "There are two ways of taking a person's reading. To understand one's life and experiences, he has to either use your blood or your emotions. The sacred dagger is used to draw blood, and trust me it hurts. But the fire only absorbs your emotions, to sum up, your life. So be glad that's the reading he's taking. He prefers the dagger but might have wanted to save that for later" Phoenix answered. Then we entered a large cavern. It had damp, stone walls. The ceiling was covered in a blue glass mosaic. The floor, which was also made of stone, had bright teal runes all over it. At the far end of the room was a dais, and in the centre of the dais lay a pack of matches and a dagger. The centre of the room had a circle of runes from which the rest of the designs seemed to emanate. The master walked to the dais and stood there. He gestured to me, indicating that I should stand in the circle of runes. Reluctantly, I moved forward. He lit one match and dropped it on one of the runes in front of him. The fire spread with incredible speed, till it filled the whole room. All I could see was the flames, which were licking my skin. Then everything went black. I woke up, still standing in the circle. The floor was steaming. The master looked troubled. Then Zane ran toward me, grabbed me by the shoulders and guided me back to the others, he hugged me for a moment before letting me go. I was willing to bet that my face was probably one of the reddest things in the room, second only to Zane's. Zellie looked like she had just been punched. "Ms Omen, stand here." He said, looking at Zellie with a curious expression planted on his face. "Please, call me Zelenia," She said as she moved forward and planted her feet in the circle. "Okay, Zelena, you might feel pain, but remember that it won't hurt you," He said calmly just as he dropped a match onto a different rune than he did for me. She nodded and closed her eyes just as the fire rose and enveloped her. The fires crackled and turned bluish-purple blazing higher and higher. "Get her out of there!" Phoenix shouted at the master. "Wait!" He whispered back, staring at the fire in awe, "She's controlling it." "WHAT?" Both Phoenix and Zane hissed at the same time. Just before I could tackle the leader guy to the ground and force him to lower the flames, Zellie stepped out of the blaze. The flames danced along her body, making her eyes look an unnaturally powerful shade of golden. The flames died down just as her legs buckled and her face ate the tile. I ran to her side pulling her face onto my lap, her breaths came in loud and desperate puffs. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?" I growled at the master. Phoenix came to her side but I pulled her away, "Don't come near her." "Just as I feared." He said. "Care to elaborate?" Zane asked. "You're Night Wings." He said, "Legends they were said to be. The most powerful Angels. Having more power than they could contain," Okay now that creeped me out. "She," He continued, pointing to Zellie, "Is a Night wing with power over the element fire. She has charm speak, a rare power. She could bend others to her will with just a word." What? "You have control over the element water and of course, a common but dangerous power related to the myths about Night Wings, telekinesis." A slight groan escaped Zellie's throat. Her eyes fluttered open, and she sat up. She wasn't the same. Her pale-golden eyes were replaced with a powerful-golden, mixed in were shades of red and orange- like a fire blazed within her and that it did. Her warm light-brown skin had a sort of ethereal glow to it, making it look like a sun-kissed tan. And her straight midnight-hair, well it was flowing in wild waves till her shoulders. She looked more beautiful and yet more terrifying than before. "What did you do to her?" I snarled. "Her exposure to her element awakened this side of her. She is now at the full circle, full power. You on the other hand, how do you feel?" "Angry," I replied, not even looking up. He said, "Stand up please." I obeyed, not wanting to be seated if it came to a knock-down fight. He grabbed my hand and pressed it to his eyes. I pulled my hand back as Zane yelped, looking furious. "You hide your emotions from me now. No matter." He dragged me to the circle again. "What are you going to do?" I asked. "A test, try not to scream Evanora." He gave me a crooked smile, pronouncing my name like it was the activation code for a nuclear bomb. Then he walked to the dais. He picked up the knife. My mind caught up to what he was doing too late. He touched it to the rune and I felt my body erupt in pain. But I kept my mouth closed. Then I blacked out. My eyes fluttered open, seeing Zellie's blurry face hovering over mine, her eyes filled with concern. Her eyes had changed to the usual warm caramel colour I knew so well. I couldn't breathe. I started hyperventilating, trying to get some air into my system. The 'master' said, "Pour some water on her, it might help." Then An icy sheet of freezing water hit my face, it sent a chill down my spine, refreshing me and filling me with energy. I sat up and shook my head, which was somehow completely dry. And you, Evanora, have control over the element water. The master's words rang through my head. There was a tight grip on my hand, I craned my neck up and my eyes caught with Zellie's. She helped me up and threw her arms around my neck, squeezing the air out of my lungs. "Zellie, let go, I can't breathe," I chuckled. She loosened her grip. "So master, what the heck was that for?" I yelled. Zane and Phoenix furiously nodded. "One- my name is Silas, two- You have to call me eternal lord, and three- You can thank me for revealing what happened to you, my services are not usually free." He said, in a tone that sent a shard of anger into me. "Ok, one- you're an eternal idiot, two- I will not thank you, and three- why would we thank you for hurting Eva and me?" Zellie said. "Do you want to know what happened to you or not?" Silas asked. "Not if the truth comes from an eternal idiot." I shot. "Too bad that only I know then," He retorted. "Master," Phoenix said, giving me and Zellie a look that clearly said, 'Shut up'. "Why don't you tell us what your profound senses have uncovered." Zellie and I snorted and received a death glare from both Phoenix and Zane. "Night Wings, as you know, are the rarest of angels, myths they were believed to be, so you both being the only ones were hunted. Hunted by creatures of the night, and the one that succeeded in capturing you, well it was a creature of the night that people often referred to as a 'Lost Soul'. They're souls of the Fallen, who hunt other angels." He said, sending a shiver down my spine, "A while after your soul was captured, the angels captured the Lost Souls in Pandora's box. It was opened recently, releasing the creature and your souls." "So wait, are we dead, or not?" Zellie asked. "Is it still hunting them?" Zane asked. "To answer your question, Zelenia," He said ignoring Zane. "You are most definitely not dead. A body can survive without a soul, and both your body and soul were collected. Thus you are very much alive." "Is that Lost Soul still hunting them though?" Zane repeated. "Yes, it's soul was released with theirs, but it's not only hunting them, but every single angel, for revenge. We are all now in deep danger."
