Chapter 9 of 12 - Chapter 9

Me and Drake became fast friends on the flight to my home. We both loved animals, we both had a mind-boggling condition that no one could explain, and we both loved music. By the time we entered Missouri, I was telling him about my family. “I have three sisters, a two-year-old named Brielle, a seven-year-old named Audrey, and a nine-year-old named Julie. Audrey is super girly, but Julie is a complete Tomboy.” I said, and Drake sighed. “I'm an only child, so I don't have siblings. It's nice sometimes, but also boring at times.” He said. “Oof,” I replied. We talked about random things, whether it be books to school to weather. Then, we finally landed in Missouri. I opened the door for Drake and prepared him for new surroundings. I learned on the way home that in new places he needed someone to describe the area. “When you walk in, there is a coat rack and a wooden bannister. There are bedrooms on the left side, and a hallway in front of you.” I said, and I walked behind him to make sure he didn't trip on any of the random toys on the floor. “We've entered the living room. It has a fireplace in the front, with a couch on the right wall and chairs on the left. There is a tan marble bar-type thing if you turn slightly left, and you enter the kitchen if you just keep walking.” While I was explaining the rest of my home, my sisters ran to my mom. They had stayed home with my nana while I was in Nebraska. Today I was feeling strong, so I had walked into the room and led Drake by the arm. My nana walked into the room, and my mom did her check on if the girls were good, blah blah blah. Drake and I waited in the living room for the other girl to show up. What would happen then, we didn't know. There wasn't much three eleven-year-olds that were unexplainable by science could do, besides getting dissected. And that was not happening, sooo... My nana came over to us, and she had this weird smirk on her face. “So Sky, who's your boyfriend?” she asked, and my face got all hot. Drake's turned bright red. Mine probably did too. “He's not my boyfriend. We're just a couple unexplainable kids that are meeting the third one.” I said, trying to explain. Nana raised her eyebrows. “Then why did you lead him through the arm into the living room?” “I'm blind,” Drake said, pointing towards his eyes. “Okay…” Nana said, then winked at me. I rolled my eyes. We literally just met! And boys and girls can just be friends, can't they? “Sorry about her,” I said, but Drake just shrugged. “Meh. People usually assume I have a girlfriend if a girl helps me around. It's annoying, but I can take it.” He said, and just then, the doorbell rang. The girl was here. The girl that entered had blond hair, long legs, and a ponytail. But the thing that shocked me most was that she looked exactly like me. Like, a spitting image. “Hi, I'm Crystal,” she said and walked into the living room. She sat down in a chair, and when she saw me and Drake. “Hey, are you guys the kids I'm supposed to meet?” Her eyes went from Drake to me, and then they stayed focused on me. “Hey…” we both said, at the same time. “My face! It's on you!” Crystal said, and my eyes widened. We both turned to our mothers and my father. “Ummm…” I asked, looking surprised in every way. Suddenly, one of the scientists that just kinda wandered around my house to study me, came up from the basement. She had built a lab in the craft room, which was the room where we kept all our toys and costumes. “Hi, guys. So, I was examining the DNA tests from every kid with the sickness and comparing them, when I found that the DNA tests from her-” she pointed to me, “And her-” She pointed to Crystal, “Are almost the same. Therefore, I think the two are twins. There is no other possible explanation.” She said, and my mouth dropped open. So did Crystal's. Then, my mind came back to reality. “Wait, but I was born into the Turner family. I don't have a twin. After all, why would my mom and dad keep me but not her?” Then my parents gave me a look that made me doubt what I had believed my entire life. “We aren't your parents.” said my dad. “Wait, what?” I said, and my mom nodded. “Sky, you're adopted.” My world spun around and broke into pieces. Every memory I'd ever had seemed like a lie. Everything felt like it wasn't real, like it was a dream that I had interpreted into a situation. Then everything turned black.
