Chapter 2 of 2 - Fighting for what's right

The rest of the day went by slow. I watched the clock, time seemed to stand still. Finally after what felt like hours six period bell rang. I packed my bag and started my walk home. When I got home I got asked the usual, “how was school?” “Learn anything new?”. Good I said as I made my way to my room. I could feel my mom watching me. “Make any new friends?” She asked. I sighed “no.” .Maybe you should consider joining a club. I hated to admit it but maybe she was right. “I'll think about it.” I said. I opened my laptop and look at all the schools clubs, drama, lgbtq+,d and d, writing, Environmental club and book club. I wasn't really to interested in any of them. After a lot of thought I decided to go with environmental club because it didn't seem like to much extra work, and I get to leave school to go to protest. The next day I was nervous. I was really bad at taking to people and the fact that I had to introduce myself to everyone didn't sit well in my mind. I spent the morning in class worrying which means I didn't get much done. The environmental club had a meeting during lunch, two hours from now. When the lunch bell rang I ended up waiting by my locker till the halls were empty. Then I made my way to the science class for the meeting. I stood outside the door the. Took a deep breathe and entered, everyone turned. I could feel myself turning red. I froze, lucky the teacher realized and did the talking for me. “This is Bella she will be joking us from now on”. I smiled awkwardly and took an open seat in the back. Teacher talked for awhile about the protests we are going to have on Friday. She then proceeded to hand out flyers with all the information. The girl next to me turned and looked at me “so are you going?” She said. “I- uhhh hahaha I guess”. “I'm Leah by the way. I froze again. The gave her an awkward smile. She then yelled to her friend across the room and left to talk to her. Of course she had a friend who signed up with her, so neither of them would have to be alone. I wish I had someone to depend on like that. The teacher told us the meeting was over and we left. As soon as I stepped out of the class room I heard a familiar voice. It was Jane she was rude and always had something to say. She laughed “environmental club, of course you would choose something like that” “probably trying to make friends”. I don't understand stand why she choose me, lots of other girls just came out of the meeting but she choose me, if only I had the guts to tell her that. I try and tell myself I don't care what she thinks. Later that week I quit environmental club.
