Mochi Ai is the sweetest, cutest, most kawaii person you could ever know. Returning to her stepmom and dad back in USA from the Harajuku district of Japan, she meets the alpha of her new school, a wolf-and-dragon hybrid named Drake. Poetic, huh? As the two get to know each other, however, Drake realizes Mochi has some nasty skeletons in the closet. What is she? Who is she?
"Drake, are you sure you want to sleep at the hospital tonight?" Oliver asked. Drake nodded as he loaded his backpack into the car. "I'll be fine, Mom. Plus, I got Rain with me! By the way..." He looked at his sister, who was filling the car with gas from a jerry can. "... thanks for volunteering to drive me to the hospital, since Siren's sick." Rain looked up and shrugged modestly. "It's no biggie, I just wanted to see Mochi again," she replied. Finally, the two siblings said goodbye to their family and drove off to the hospital. The first thing they did was check on Mochi. "How is she, Doc?" Drake asked as he held Mochi's cold hand. Dr. Mellows smiled. "Actually, her vital signs and body temperature tells us that she should wake up within the next 24 hours," she explained. Drake's dreary eyes lit up with excitement. After an hour of talking by Mochi's bed, the two went to the cafeteria for some food. When they got there, there was a chicken restaurant, a diner, and a sushi place. Rain looked at her little brother. "Which one? I'm good with whatever, honestly." Drake looked over the three restaurants, then said, "I think the sushi place sounds best." After getting their food, Drake and Rain sat down at a table near the gift shop entrance and ate in silence. While finishing up their meals, Rain noticed Drake staring intently at something in the gift shop. "Whatcha looking at, bro? See something Mochi might like?" Drake kept staring, but nodded slowly as the evening sun rays shone on the perfect gift.
"... so, yeah! Thea and Anais went out to buy you a get-well-soon gift... wish you could open it right now..." Drake whispered to Mochi. The room was completely silent, apart from Rain's occasional snores. The one large window in the room revealed a beautiful, starry night sky, a dome above the crowded city not too far from Drake's small hometown. As he sat at the foot of Mochi's bed and whispered stories of all the students back at school doing such nice things for her, every now and then her hand would noticeably twitch, as if the try and gesture Drake to continue with the stories. After finishing talking, Drake stared at Mochi in silence; he had an overwhelming urge to crawl into the bed with her and fall asleep, or carry her all the way home so he could care for her. Drake looked around; no nurses, no doctors, no Rain to get over- excited with shipping, and the security cameras were off. Without thinking, he tiptoed over and kissed Mochi's cheek. As soon as Drake lifted his head, he had a sense of disappointment and he moved his chair closer to Mochi's head. "Heh... well, goodnight..." he whispered, and set his head on Mochi's bed to catch some Z's. Suddenly, her body twitched, and Drake's head shot straight up. Had he...? Mochi's hand slowly moved over to Drake's, and then...
Her red eyes slowly fluttered open.
