Chapter 3 of 4 - Deal With It

This wouldn't be happening if mom and dad were here. If only they were alive, they would have said no. Or my grandma and grandpa. If they were still alive, they would have taken me in. They would have comforted me. But no! None! They're not alive, they're not here to help. It's nighttime now, I'm lying awake. But the hospital is always filled with bustling, always open. I wondered how to doctors stayed up that late. A few doctors passed my room, but they never opened the door or checked on me. I needed the comfort. The comfort I was craving so badly. The-Doctor-Who-Called-Me-Girl (his name's Dr. Brown) wasn't much help at all. Being called 'girl' every day was sorta an insult. It was rude. I didn't like hospital life. Not one bit. I sighed and looked at the ceiling. I could cry. I wanted to cry. I was about to cry. I felt angry at myself... or did I feel angry at mom and dad? Possibly not! I had no idea what I was feeling now. I closed my eyes, and that's when the tears started coming out. I cried myself to sleep. I woke up to my leg aching. I looked at my wheelchair, which was beside me. I got up and climbed into it. I wheeled it forward to my waiting breakfast, which the doctors had placed on a little table. I no longer needed to be hand-fed. I ate by myself, recalling the times I had ate with mom, dad, and Luke at our little table that mom had hand-knitted and embroidered with pretty little flowers of all shapes and sizes and colors. Oh, how I missed home. After eating, Dr. Brown visited again. This time, for the mercy of God, he remembered my name. When he talked about his family and his home back in England, and I felt a little better. It turned out Dr. Brown wasn't so bad, and I started being less rude to him.
